Alabama Acorn started life on "Terawhiti Station", a high country station on Wellingtons rugged South Coast. She is an upstanding example of why we love Stationbred horses, she is sure footed, tough as boots, highly intelligent and an extremely good doer.
She started competing as a three year old at local horse club shows with success. Her achievements to date include:
As a three year old:
2008 Te Marua Horse Club Spring Show - Champion of Beginner Classes (no jumping classes entered)
As a four year old:
2009 Te Marua Horse Club Autumn Show - 2nd Introductory Show Hunter Class (Intro 65cm class - only class entered)
2009 Te Marua Winter Dressage Series - 2nd Introductory Classes (scores ranging from 55.0 - 67.00)
2009 Te Marua Horse Club Spring Show - Reserve Champion Pleasure Mount classes and 1st Introductory Show Jumping (65cm)
As a five year old:
2010 Te Marua Horse Club Autumn Show - 4th Best Paced and Mannered Intermediate Class, 3rd & 4th Intermediate Show Jumping (75cm jumping classes despite incurring faults due to rider error!)
Acorn would suit a smaller adult or young rider (weighing up to 80kgs), who is after a low fuss, low maintenance mount to get out and about on. Showing is not my passion or interest and yet I have been surprised at how much attention she gets from the judges when showing, her cool calm nature and her showey paces seem to strike a chord!
Her small frame and ability to jump clear consistently and with intelligence has already proven hard to beat in competition. I will be focusing much more on her competitive jumping for the 2010 season, now that she is mature. Now competing at 80cm and schooling 1.0m at home with ease and loads of ability to go hgher. Enjoys cross country immensely and has ground covering canter and gallop.
Acorn would be equally suited to endurance riding part of her early fitness training was to ride with endurance horses in training and she coped well with distances of up to 40km very well - with heart rate lowering quickly and in some cases faster than her fully endurance fit training partners!
Acorn is easy to float and truck, clip, ride in strange environments, has been hacked out alone and in company. She is a quiet horse to take to shows settling immediately and happy to stand all day tied to a float with a haynet for company.
Due to her intelligence she would suit an experienced rider, or a beginner if the beginner had a committment to ongoing coaching and training.
DVD available of dressage and jumping.

She is also welcome at any point to return to our property if it does not work out but we do not give refunds once a horse has left our property. If at any point you decide to sell we do prefer to be notified and at any point if our horses become unwanted and potential for neglection - they will always have a home with us.
